Riso Art Jam celebrates the vibrant Riso art scene in our community and brings together artists and art enthusiasts from all around the world. The festival features three components, including a forum, a bazaar, and an art exhibition – all based on Risography! It offers a unique platform for artists to showcase their Riso print works and engage with a wider audience of like-minded people, creating an enriching experience for both the artists and the community.

Riso Art Jam is proudly presented by Tsubaki Studio, Hasuriso Riso Experience Centre, and other partners who share a passion for this beautiful printing method, originating from Japan. Join us as we bring the excitement of Riso art to Malaysia for the very first time!

This will be the first-ever Riso Art Exhibition in Malaysia, featuring a collection of stunning Riso art prints from all around the world!

We’re thrilled to invite artists with Riso prints to contribute their artwork to this
one-of-a-kind exhibition. This exhibition is curated by us for Riso art lovers, and we’re expecting to showcase over 100 pieces that will blow your mind with their beautiful and vibrant Riso colours.

Discover the endless possibilities of Riso printing and marvel at the unique textures and vivid colours that are only possible with this innovative technique. Our bazaar will feature artists with their Riso print works as well as other art mediums of their own. Join us as a vendor or come visit us! Not only will you be able to add to your personal art collection, you’ll be discovering new talents and supporting independent artists. From postcards and posters to all sorts of prints and mixed media pieces, our Riso art bazaar has something for everyone. Join us for two days of creativity and inspiration at our upcoming art bazaar, happening alongside George Town Festival!

Riso Print Maker

Jay and Vivian’s passion for print design has shaped their lives. From childhood in Kuala Lumpur, Jay drew on walls while Vivian devoured books. In their teens, they discovered their talents. Jay pursued graphic design, while Vivian wrote poems. A trip to Taiwan unveiled risography’s potential, confirmed by Jay’s teaching experience in Macau. Jay’s travels exposed him to design trends and conversations. They now plan to promote Risograph by creating the first Riso art festival in Malaysia.

Witti Studio

Witti is a creative studio based in Bangkok, Thailand. Combining the passion and expertise of Wittamon Niwattichai and Santi Tonsukha, they offer thoughtful solutions spanning across different design disciplines to help clients craft their vision. Their Riso printing service provides an alternative printing method. It is cost-effective for high volume print and has a unique artisanal look and feel. With a special palette of non-toxic, environmentally friendly rice bran oil ink, Witti Studio can create Riso printed materials for all occasions.

ASIAN_FOOD_DESIGN is a project initiated by graphic designer and illustrator Takako Masuki, focusing on Asian cuisine. It involves the creation of zines etc using the riso printing technique. Asian Food Travel won first place in the design category at the 2021 Gourmand World Cookbook Awards.

Bang Bang Zine

As a creative endeavour from Mun Yeong, Shermene, and Chya Chyi, Bang Bang Zine (BBZ) is a zine brand and print publication that centres on storytelling with illustration. To them, stories always matter. By making zines, they infuse various creative traits and explore the possibility of visual narration. The intriguing name of “Bang Bang Zine” is extended from their love of how different ideas bang with different sparks. They’re also running a risograph printing studio based in Kuala Lumpur.

With a great interest in print and publication works, Van has experimented with books and printmaking as a form of—both as art and archive. She has designed and self-published a range of publications from art books to zines.

Book of Lai is a highly acclaimed Malaysian artist from Kuala Lumpur, specializing in captivating digital artworks influenced by fantasy stories and vanlife culture. With 8 years of experience, Lai established Studio Behind 90, creating remarkable illustrations for prominent clients like Netflix, Snapchat, and Puma. Lai’s exceptional talent has earned prestigious accolades, including the World Illustration Award and Golden Pin Award. Featured in renowned publications such as Computer Arts and 500 Children Book Artists, Lai has exhibited his work globally in venues like Somerset House UK and Asia Illustration Award Fair.
